Job Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for providing technical oversight of the maturation of a diverse portfolio of Viasat’s Government Systems disruptive programs from concept to prototype to advanced development model.  Working closely with our CTO office and Government Systems leadership, you will oversee the transition of technologies and programs from incubation to prototype or MVP, and provide technical, strategic, and business leadership to realize our innovative capabilities and unique business models working to evolve them into self-sustaining businesses.  You will advise, plan, and present analyses to quantify the viability of each advanced program and oversee project execution, cost, schedule, technical progress, and quality objectives to deliver differentiated customer solutions.  Reporting to the President of Viasat’s Government Systems business you will deliver analysis to decide on investment priorities, initial market assessments, project development plans, business model tradeoffs, platform designs, and program pursuits.    

Success in this role is dependent on collaboration with internal Viasat Business Area leaders, Technology leads, program management, business development, and customers to ensure a clear understanding of the problem to be solved, and will require a unique blend of technical, strategic, and business acumen.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years being part of and/or leading high-performance technical teams in complex Government and/or Commercial markets
  • Experience in market analysis and competitive assessment
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and oral: Ability to communicate and convey solutions and technology at an appropriate level to a wide range of audiences from customers/markets to internal engineering and executive staff
  • Exposure to complex, highly dynamic environments with the ability to learn quickly and contribute immediately
  • Possess a mix of tactical execution and strategic thinking skills
  • Strong experience managing budget
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, execute, and deliver work product based on data-driven analysis
  • Develop Key Performance Indices (KPI) metrics for the organization to use as a measure of success/growth of program deliver
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in a technical discipline from an accredited college
  • Ability to obtain a  clearance with an investigation within the last 6 years or be in Continuous Evaluation (CE)

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to see the big picture:  understand where markets are, where they’re going and where they’re subject to disruption.
  • Experience with bringing new business models (services, platforms, etc.) to market.
  • Strong system engineering and technology solution development experience in the telecommunications field
  • Knowledge and experience of telecommunication network architectures, technologies, systems, and solutions
  • Experience leading development teams using Waterfall and/or Agile processes and provide technical and professional mentorship to individuals and teams
  • In-depth knowledge of key U.S. Government agencies and Operational Commands responsible for the deployment of communications and networking technology to warfighters in all DoD services (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, others)
  • Knowledge and experience working with foreign (non-U.S.) agencies responsible for the deployment of communications and networking technologies for foreign coalition forces
  • Ability to obtain SAR/SCI program clearances
  • Team leadership experience
  • Customer engagement experience; including development and delivery of presentations
  • Proven interpersonal and organizational skills, with demonstrated oral and written communication proficiency Military Operations Analysis background
  • M.S. or higher engineering degree
  • Proficient in analytical methods (i.e. design of experiments, trade studies, data analytics)
  • Project management experience

At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. The starting salary for this position is $201,575 annually, but an offered salary may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
