Job Responsibilities

As an Antenna Installation Technician, you will lead the mechanical and electrical assembly of Viasat satellite antenna systems at various locations around the world.  This includes working with subcontracted or local labor to unpack, inventory, and stage the various components of the antenna.  You will operate or direct the use of heavy equipment such as cranes, telehandlers, forklifts, scissor lifts, and EWPs (elevated work platforms) to assemble the antenna per Viasat installation drawings.  You will install antenna wiring and cabling, oversee initial power-on of the antenna, and validate basic antenna motion prior to the arrival of the engineering validation team.


  • Install Viasat satellite antenna ground stations both domestically and internationally
  • Supervise contractors during site installs
  • Actively maintain good customer relations and work as part of a diverse team both managing the work and participating in the day to day process of installation
  • Evaluate daily job tasks for safety risks and mitigate risks though job planning
  • Follow and enforce company safety and quality policies and procedures
  • Inspect arriving equipment and document non-conformities
  • Correct non-conformities and punchlist items in accordance with program team and Viasat quality assurance team
  • Work in teams, at heights to safely and efficiently assemble antenna system equipment, while meeting Viasat’s standards of quality
  • Ensure Viasat’s procedure manuals, drawings, and schematics are being followed
  • Testing antenna performance to specifications
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing your work and recommending solutions to technical problems
  • Complete daily documentation such as job safety analyses, maintenance reports, job task check lists, punch lists, and daily reports/calls


  • 2+ years of experience in similar field
  • Technical Associates Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in assembly of large scale systems involving mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment
  • Ability to read and understand civil drawings
  • Ability to read and follow mechanical fabrication drawings
  • Ability to operate DVMs and troubleshoot basic electrical issues
  • Experience with cross-functional teams, including contractors, multiple engineering disciplines, assembly personnel, and quality representatives
  • Ability to work under pressure and to communicate effectively directly with customers
  • Experience resolving problems from design engineering to production assembly
  • Mechanical aptitude that supports supervision of rigging and directing cranes up to 200 ton capacity, to lift antenna assemblies that weigh as much as 20 tons
  • Demonstrated experience working independently to quickly identify problems and devising either a temporary and/or long term solution as required
  • Excellent communications skills (written and oral) are essential.  Must have expertise in Microsoft Office and be proficient in supporting dynamic project schedules
  • Ability to pass skills testing for grip and static strength, dynamic lifting and work/positional tolerances
  • US Citizenship required
  • Must be willing and able to be submitted for a US government security clearance
  • Ability to travel 75% or more on domestic and international installations of large Antenna Systems and support facilities
