Job Responsibilities
As an Applications Engineer, you will be working as a bridge between customers and engineering team, you will use customer input to recommend design or re-design, develop, test and implement changes to Viasat Mobile Terminals and Viasat Ka Network customers operate on. You will also provide technical support and expertise to customers, testing applications, responding to customer feedback, installations, maintenance and assist Business Units in development of Sales Presentations by providing technical expertise and customer feedback. The Applications Engineers reach across many departments, working with the engineering teams, the sales team, the customer service team and the manufacturing team.

You will also be responsible for assisting in the design, development and implementation of applications and changes to Viasat Mobile Terminals. You will analyze customer issues and recommend changes that respond to customer needs and provide innovative solutions to common problems and perform software/hardware piloting, application tests and document reviews to ensure product is satisfactory.  You'll also work with customer service teams and product management to optimize products and ensure products stay up-to-date and continue to satisfy customer needs. From service start-up through  post warranty, you will rovide customers with ongoing technical support, which includes responding to customer issues, assisting with installs for customers and working with the various customer service teams; you'll also act as the last escalation point in services for Customer Viasat Mobile Terminal issues and are expected to make recommendations that impact both Viasat and the customer financially.  The Applications Engineers are also responsible for properly documenting customer issues that may require development changes and work with Product Management and Engineering Teams to identify test and implement solutions in a timely manner, and will be required to participate in an "on call" rotation to provide 24 by 7, 365 coverage for case escalations from first tier support teams to provide engineering support to customers.

Requirements
6+ years hands-on experience in Satellite Communications industry, working with SATCOM, RF and wireless communications 
Networking experience with configuration, installation, maintaining and integration.
Strong understanding of networking, internet and UNIX systems administration
Ability to work on call rotations to provide 24/7/365 coverage 
Demonstrated knowledge of  SATCOM, RF and Networking
Associates Degree in relevant technical field or equivalent experience
US Government position.  US Citizenship required
Active Secret Clearance or active within the last two years
Up to 10% travel may be required


Preferences

6+ years experience installation and staging of RF/SATCOM networking equipment.
Experience with Linux/Commands
Experience with Military SATCOM systems or Commercial Aircraft SATCOM systems
Experience with Virtualization technology (VMWare, KVM, HyperV)
Strong proficiency with network Monitoring protocols and tools such as SNMP, Wireshark, Cacti, and Tivoli
Experience with RF Test equipment (Spectrum Analyzer)
Active CCNA
