Purpose of Role

The primary role of Bid Manager will be the co-ordination and management of bids through the current bid and gate process the aim of which will be to deliver high quality winning bids for Viasat UK. This includes, amongst other needs, establishing price-to-win, managing bid budgets and coordinating all the various internal parties needed to write a successful and compliant bid. There is also an opportunity to improve and modify the bid process through lessons learnt and best practice.

Additionally, because of the exciting position in which Viasat UK currently operates as a small rapidly growing team, there is the opportunity and requirement to get involved and contribute to a broader range of capabilities such as demonstrations and opportunities tracking. There is the real opportunity for a suitably motivated individual to influence and engage, shaping the whole business development team to drive additional growth and significantly contribute towards the overall success of Viasat UK. As a development role this job will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to advance towards a more responsible position within the Viasat Sales and Business Development team.


Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver bids of a variety of complexity from initial opportunity qualification through to Contract Award and Acceptance in order to increase Viasat’s profitable business
  • Manage the Bid Team through the Bid process to deliver bids to the correct Quality, Time and Cost
  • Manage the bid plan
  • Manage the bid budget
  • Develop/maintain the bid management process
  • Help drive the Price to Win exercise for each bid
  • Run Lessons Learned process following each bid in order to identify improvements
  • Gate review administration
  • Ensure the contract is handed over to Project delivery to an agreed standard with known risks, opportunities and constraints
  • Cross functional business alignment - informing ops/tracking of bids, upcoming ops, resourcing
  • Work with Sales/BD team to maintain key relationships with external stakeholders especially other industry partners
  • Work with Sales/BD team to understand and maintain competitor data
  • Liaise and share information with Sales operations in order to understand future workload
  • Deliver bid management training/education to a range of internal stakeholders
  • Track demonstrations and events
  • Review contract and opportunity frameworks quarterly
  • Build up a repository of example bids/answers/social value responses
  • Responsible for championing and promoting adherence to the company’s Health and Safety code and policies
  • Responsible for operating in accordance with company’s policies and procedures
  • Provide an informed, experienced and professional interface between Viasat, existing and new customers

Requirements
  • Experience in the use, planning and deployment of communication products, systems and technologies across the Defence and Security community
  • Knowledge of UK MOD & Government, ESA and NATO procurement frameworks.
  • Knowledge of other procurement methodologies (eg Shipley) used by businesses and organisations outside of Government - e.g. Prime System Integrators and/or Telecommunication Companies.
  • Proven ability to assimilate and communicate detailed operational & technical information pertaining to Viasat technologies and capabilities.
  • Positive and dynamic approach to problem solving and opportunity management.
  • A self-motivated achiever and team player, internally driven to accomplish goals.
  • Proactive in building relationships with ability to listen and capture customer issues, requirements and plans.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral, with the ability to communicate and influence at all levels
