Purpose of Role

The Space Business Development role will be pivotal in identifying opportunities for Viasat UK across the Space ecosystem including an intimate understanding of the Space industry within the UK and the agencies associated. The key area is to develop the Viasat brand within that ecosystem. You will work within the growing Business Development (BD)and Capture team, with responsibility to integrate with the UK business functions to ensure coherence, alignment and expertise from wider Viasat.  You will ideally be an experienced business development person who has operated in both the military and commercial Space domain. Ideally you will be used to operating in a lean start up methodology, with independence, flexibility of approach and ability to engage at all levels of the user community

Additionally, because of the exciting position in which Viasat UK currently operates as a small rapidly growing team, there is the opportunity and requirement to get involved and contribute to a broader range of capabilities within the Space campaign team. There is the real opportunity for a suitably motivated individual to influence and engage, shaping the business development team to drive additional growth and significantly contribute towards the overall success of Viasat UK.


Job Responsibilities

Viasat UK BD Lead for Space including the engagement with Industry and within the UK Space sector
• Focus on Ministry of Defence (MoD) / Space Command.
• Lead the Viasat UK activities with UK Space agencies, including BEIS, UKSA, UK Space, TechUK, ESA and other areas as necessary in line with VUK strategies
• Support the Viasat senior management with the UK Space industry and BEIS
• Viasat lead for UK Space committees including Space Security and Defence Committee
• Work with the BD and sales team to maintain key relationships with external stakeholders’ other industry partners
• Maintain, capture and track new business leads and opportunities using the Viasat BD support tools
• Work in close alignment with other Viasat Business areas and your equivalent peer/ role in the wider organisation (including those outside of the UK).
• Attend meetings and conferences, or host members of the Armed Forces, government departments and other industry stakeholders, to help them better understand Viasat’s portfolio and brand

In addition, from time to time, the role may include other tasks and responsibilities not covered above in order to achieve project or business objectives.

Requirements

• Experience and in-depth Knowledge of the UK Space industry and associated collaboration fora
• Proactive in building relationships with ability to listen and capture opportunities
• Experience in the use, planning and deployment of communication products, systems and technologies across the Defence and Security community
• Knowledge of UK Space, MOD & Government, ESA and NATO frameworks.
• Proven ability to assimilate and communicate detailed operational & technical information pertaining to Viasat technologies and capabilities.
• Positive and dynamic approach to problem solving and opportunity management with the ability to prioritise and triage obligations.
• Excellent communication skills - both written and oral, with the ability to communicate and influence at all levels
• A demonstrable track record of hitting personal targets.
• Capable of obtaining (or already hold) security clearance (SC or higher) to work on UK Government projects
• In depth knowledge of sales development and capture, capability forecasting and challenger sales processes
• Ability to explain end user issues to technical leads and engineers and understand and shape the available technical solutions
• The ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
• Willingness to travel – UK and International.


Preferences

• A degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Knowledge of security evaluation processes.
