Our group

The Corporate Communications team is part of the larger Marketing organization and is comprised of corporate communications & PR professionals, social media team members and content editors & writers for our external blog and podcast series. We create and share the messages you read, hear and view across various external communications mediums. Our team strives for excellence and are masters at story-telling and positioning. We are passionate about sharing the Company’s mission, vision and values in order to establish Viasat as the premier satellite internet provider in the world—bringing high-speed, highly-reliable internet services anywhere—on the ground, in the air and at sea.

This role

The Corporate Communications Specialist will focus on creating and implementing PR programs around Viasat’s major corporate initiatives, including: the corporate narrative tied to major space and industry events & trends; external brand communications; external employee storytelling; local community awareness; social impact and corporate giving; diversity & inclusion; sustainability; talent acquisition, corporate partnerships and more. The right candidate will have a passion for creatively sharing Viasat’s mission, vision and values by giving an external voice to the people behind the Viasat brand and spotlighting the Company’s global efforts for good. 

Responsibilities include

Work in partnership and collaborate with PR, Social, Content, Brand, Creative, People & Culture and Space Systems teams to create and deliver compelling and impactful communications campaigns;
Work on the development and roll-out of Viasat’s corporate narrative, from strategy and positioning to message creation and in-market execution;
Create and implement integrated communications plans that will generate positive media coverage and drive increases in social engagement;
Develop and execute thought leadership programs, inclusive of planning, drafting and submitting for awards, keynotes and high-level speakerships as well as initiating ‘ownable’ survey campaigns;
Manage tier-one global events and roundtable programs with Viasat’s Events team;
Build and maintain relationships with key business, local and industry press;
Handle the coordination of media inquiries, inclusive of drafting positioning, messaging and media briefing packets; 
Draft corporate press releases, bylines, blogs, podcast scripts, Q&A documents and more;
Track, benchmark and analyze media coverage and social media KPIs; provide recommendations for continuous improvement; and
Own the creation and delivery of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual measurement documents.
This positions reports to the Director of Corporate Communications & PR

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related area of study;
Experience working in corporate communications for a large brand a plus;
Strategic, creative thinker comfortable with generating ideas, plans and getting those plans across the finish line;
Confident communicator and presenter, with an ability to influence change and present communications plans to Viasat’s senior leadership team;
Ability to work autonomously while taking direction from leadership;
Impeccable writing, editing, proofreading, layout/design skills; must be able to communicate concepts effectively;
Highly organized with depth in planning and execution;
Superior project management and time management skills;
Passionate, positive, self-starter who enjoys working in a cross-functional team environment;
Strong knowledge of MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, social media platforms and enterprise management tools, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop;
Ability to work after-hours and occasional weekends; and
Up to 30% travel.

Preferences

Prior experience and knowledge in working in PR – either agency or in-house
7+ years of communications experience, preferably in a corporate environment
Ability to plan and execute multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Proven ability to manage and track cross functional projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
BS/BA Degree
US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
