Job Responsibilities
Viasat is in the business to connect the world. As a global broadband services and technology company, we are connecting people to the internet by enabling passengers and operations crews to stream high-bandwidth media, applications, and content when traveling globally on commercial, business or government aircraft and maritime vessels.

You are capable of software engineering using disciplined software development methods, so why not come to Viasat and put these skills to good use? You will be a member of a product team where you’ll help design, write and deliver software to improve the availability, scalability, and operational efficiency of software services; build automation to prevent problem recurrence with the goal of automating response to all non-exceptional service conditions; influence new designs, architectures, and methods for large-scale distributed systems; conduct periodic on-call duties using a follow-the-sun model.

Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in writing software in one or more languages, such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript, C++ or similar.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or similar field 
  • Experience with containers (K8s/Docker), Linux (Bash/CLI), CI/CD, log management, message queues. 
  • Prior experience in building automated solutions through tools and software that enable infrastructure to be remotely provisioned, configured and decommissioned.  This includes developing, testing, deploying, monitoring, and supporting infrastructure as code to provide scalable solutions for the organization.
  • How to use various cloud technologies, preferably AWS, such as EC2, Fargate, Cloud Formation, and the CDK.
  • Collaborates with the other product teams and staff to assist with technical analysis and problem resolution on system issues.
  • Hands-on experience supporting deployment processes, patch management, encryption and security controls in an enterprise environment.
  • Practical Agile and/or DevOps experience with a technical team 
  • Experience with SDLC, including planning, system integration, verification and validation for a variety of technical solutions.
  • May be required to participate in an on-call rotation with the team to ensure 24x7 support of critical services.
  • Domestic travel up to 10%

Preferences
  • Technical and software engineering background in the areas of cloud computing, enterprise computing, servers, and virtualization technology and products
  • Expertise in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive
