Job Responsibilities

Viasat is looking for an energetic, sharp, diligent, and extremely detail-oriented Environmental Compliance Engineer to join our Environmental Engineering Compliance Team.  In this role, you will be an integral member of the team as you will be assisting with the analysis of product designs and material selection used on our various product lines.  You will be responsible for working with suppliers and customers to ensure regulatory requirements are understood and met. You will also be responsible for liaising with the various program managers and engineering teams with your findings and required changes to product designs.  Additionally, you will assist in implementing Environmental Compliance laws and regulations including but not limited to Proposition 65, REACH Regulation, WEEE, ROHS, Battery and Packaging Directives. You will drive improvements in Viasat’s process and specifications to ensure we can continue to meet the ever changing regulatory compliance.  Your excellent attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and analytical ability will enable you to assist with managing projects, performing risk assessments, performing hazardous material and fungi analyses, writing hazardous material reports, inputting compliance data into databases, evaluating supplier material declarations, driving environmental improvements, writing procedures, issuing customer material declarations, quoting work effort on programs, and providing technical expertise to cross functional teams all to ensure compliance requirements are met.  Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will allow you to competently present results at meetings and generate design guidelines as necessary.  As a self-motivated team player, you will enjoy the quick pace while keeping in sync with colleagues across multiple geographic areas, interfacing with consultants and other companies on changing regulatory requirements and ensuring Viasat continues on the right path of regulatory environmental product compliance.

  • New graduate or up to 4 years of engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience or work in product design, regulatory compliance
  • Experience with data input or management of Environmental Databases or other similar tools
  • Excellent communication, writing, documentation, organization, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in parallel
  • Up to 10% travel
  • US Citizenship is required

  • Previous knowledge or experience with Proposition 65, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Packaging, and or Battery Directives/Regulations is desired
  • Working knowledge of Agile, Oracle and Compliance Map is desired
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Pro/Engineer, or equivalent design software is desired
  • Experience working with both internal customers and external suppliers is desired
  • Willingness to learn Product/Material Analysis for Fungus, Flammability, Corrosion, and other specialty HazMat requirements including but not limited to:  MIL-STD-810G, MIL-HDBK-454, NAS-411 and IAEG is desired
  • Experience working with international regulations
