Job Responsibilities

As a Field Applications Engineer in our Global Business Services team, you will be responsible for helping our customers be successful in adopting and deploying our products. You will be focused on solving real customer problems and creating the ideal customer experience for customers in a variety of business verticals.    

If you enjoy working with customers, have a passion to make things work in the real world, and can provide the valuable feedback needed to drive product roadmaps that are responsive to real customer needs, this may be a role for you. As a Field Applications Engineer within the product management team, you will become an expert in our products and help customers have an amazing experience with them.

To be successful, you must have expertise in deploying communication and/or networking solutions with business customers, demonstrate empathy for a day in the life of a business customer, and possess excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Be the go-to expert for all aspects of our product portfolio
  • Travel to customer and partner locations to help them implement and configure our products for optimal use.
  • Collaborate with product and sales teams to keep the backlog full for customer and partner responsive product enhancements
  • Maintain a wiki with white papers and best practice documentation.
  • Assist the sales teams in the creation of proposals that leverage our capabilities
  • Become an expert in how customers are using our products
  • Feed back roadmap, features, and bug fixes based on customer use cases
  • Provide guidance to customers on how to best integrate our products into their unique environments.
  • Create technical training for customers and support teams
  • Write customer use cases and assist in the prioritization of backlog items
  • Identify, understand and mitigate product vulnerabilities in current product/service releases and guide the mitigation/minimization/elimination of those vulnerabilities in future product/service releases
  • Spend time with customers and channel partners to understand customer problems, observing customers firsthand whenever possible, especially observing product use by customers in real-world activities
  • Work with marketing to develop marketing communication plans
  • Develop product training programs for and otherwise support the BD/sales force, agents and distribution partners and provide training as needed

Requirements

  • 5+ years demonstrated product engineering, network architecture, or other related experience
  • Expertise in Enterprise and Business customer networking environments
  • Experience with common and emerging technologies such as private/public cloud peering, Network Automation, SD-Wan, MPLS,
  • Knowledgeable in a wide variety of networking implementations
  • Experience with a variety of networking supplier’s equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly energetic, positive attitude individual with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and stay focused in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to lead through influence and mobilize individuals in and outside of Product Management to achieve business goals (including superior *soft- skills)
  • Strong sense of urgency, with a demonstrated commitment to providing unequalled customer service
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Up to 50% travel to customers, partners, and various ViaSat locations

Preferences 

  • MBA or significant demonstrated business leadership experience
  • Experience in companies that sold through channels
  • Domain knowledge of ViaSat’s products (i.e., any of satellite communications, internet services, government communications, cryptography, mobile communications, broadband communications and networking equipment and services, etc.)
