Job Responsibilities

As Viasat’s Government Systems Marketing Intern, you will get to contribute to real marketing campaigns, strategies, and tactics while simultaneously working collaboratively with our in-house marketing team.

Your insight will help us to identify opportunities to improve our primary drivers:  leveraging our unique culture of innovation and employee empowerment, coupled with entrepreneurial business strategies, agile technology development processes and non-traditional business models to accelerate delivery of turnkey capabilities to our young men and women in uniform.

Viasat’s government systems team has built its success on empowering our customers with technology-enabled operational capabilities, as well as collaborating closely with military personnel deployed around the world to clearly understand the “problem to be solved” in customer terms. As this year-over-year high growth business evolves, we look to improve our brand recognition within the defense industry, both in domestic and international markets.

You will need to bring fresh, creative and innovative thinking to:

  • Collaborate with our marketing team to propose new ideas for campaigns to support lead generation efforts
  • Assist with delivering comprehensive, forward looking marketing plans/roadmaps
  • Assist team members in the creation and editing of content for a variety of marketing mediums, including in print, online, at events/tradeshows, and in customer/prospect presentations
  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data from marketing campaigns and share key insights/best practices/lessons learned
  • Perform market analysis and research on competition, including ad tracking
  • Work with our event marketing team to help with event-related projects/tasks
  • Coordinate and improve processes related to submission/requests for a variety of marketing projects, including graphics, collateral, images, etc.
  • Update current media list including market, demographics, circulation, readership, and value proposition
  • Support the government systems marketing team in daily/weekly administrative tasks

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors in marketing, business administration, communications, or related field.
  • General understanding of marketing fundamentals such as positioning, differentiation, market segmentation, value propositions, customer personas, purchase decision sales cycle journey maps, SWOT analysis, etc.
  • Creative thinker with an interest in data driven marketing best practices.
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple, deadline-oriented projects at the same time.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a particular passion for technology.
  • Strong work ethic – must be creative, self-motivated and able to take the initiative.
  • Able to commit to a 10-12 week summer internship
  • For immediate consideration, please provide at least one sample of work that demonstrates your writing ability.

Preferences

  • Knowledge of and interest in the military and/or satellite communications industry is a plus.
  • Experience in using a web content management system (CMS) such as Drupal or WordPress is a plus.
  • Experience in SEO, PPC, Google Ads/Analytics, and marketing analytics is a plus.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud apps including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel
