Job Responsibilities

As a Hardware Engineering Manager at Viasat you will be responsible for developing a wide range of hardware for testing and troubleshooting our highly regarded commercial, military and space products. You will manage a team of Hardware Engineers which produce hardware test solutions such as test fixture and interface test adapter (ITA) designs, including custom PWAs. In this role you will work closely with the test and R&D teams on continuing to build our test capabilities for new products while improving existing test devices and methods. Your ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, in a fast paced, rapidly changing, short turn-around environment will be key factor to the success of the team. You’ll be asked to contribute to program responsibilities to include proposal efforts, requirements definition, conceptual design, tradeoffs, detailed design and drawings, prototype build, integration and test.

The Hardware Engineering Manager is a key leadership figure who is approachable and a ‘go to’ person. The role encompasses two aspects, to lead and mentor a small team of highly skilled hardware engineers and, secondly, work as an individual contributor developing hardware test solutions.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • 8+ years of electrical design and schematic capture experience
  • 4+ years of experience with direct management of engineering test development projects and resources
  • Ability to work independently
  • Provide day to day technical guidance, direction and coordination of engineers to ensure the team is heading in a common direction
  • Coordinate engineering effort and forecasting of project resource to ensure achievement of milestones 
  • A proven track record of managing resources supporting multiple projects and programs, problem solving, interfacing with internal and external senior management, performing analysis, making trade off decisions, and utilizing formal project management techniques and accountability
  • Ability to create design concepts and techniques for circuit boards and assemblies used in RF and communication applications
  • Experience designing Test Fixture and Interface Test Adapter (ITA) designs that meet performance, cost, and manufacturability goals
  • Experience with O-Scopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzer, Logic Analyzers, Sig Gens
  • Mixed Signal Design Experience (Analog, Digital, RF)
  • Strong written, and verbal communication skills, team player
  • US Citizenship
  • Up to 10% Travel
