Our group

The Corporate Communications team is part of the larger Marketing organization and is comprised of corporate communications & PR professionals, social media team members and content editors & writers for our external blog and podcast series. We create and share the messages you read, hear and view across various external communications mediums. Our team strives for excellence and are masters at story-telling and positioning. We are passionate about sharing the Company’s mission, vision and values in order to establish Viasat as the premier satellite internet provider in the world—bringing high-speed, highly-reliable internet services anywhere—on the ground, in the air and at sea.

This role

The PR Specialist: Mobility & Platform will focus on creating and implementing PR programs around Viasat’s mobility sector, inclusive of commercial aviation, business aviation and maritime businesses, as well as the Company’s platform initiatives. The right candidate will be fearless in their approach to media relations, having a strong passion for creative story-telling.

Responsibilities 

Collaborate with PR, Social, Content, Broadband Services: Commercial Aviation, Business Aviation, Maritime and Platform teams to create and deliver compelling and impactful communications campaigns;
Develop and roll-out Viasat’s mobility and platform narratives, from strategy and positioning to message creation and in-market execution;
Create and implement integrated communications plans that will generate positive media coverage and drive increases in social engagement;
Media relations, media relations and media relations: build, cultivate and maintain relationships with key business, local and trade press;
Provide detailed ‘soup-to-nuts’ media relations support at key trade events;
Handle the coordination of media inquiries, inclusive of drafting positioning, messaging and media briefing packets; 
Understand and pull together competitive assessments, news alerts and more to help with message creation and competitive myth de-bunking; 
Draft press releases, inclusive of new product, service, customer and partner content;
Write compelling content for the corporate blog, podcast series and more;
Craft 1-page message documents for each press release distributed, empowering Mobility Customer Success Managers with timely, relevant positioning to share with customers and partners;
Work in concert with the mobility and platform teams, developing and executing thought leadership campaigns, inclusive of planning, drafting and submitting for awards, keynotes and high-level speakerships; and
Track, benchmark and analyze media coverage and social media KPIs; provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
This positions reports to the Director of Corporate Communications & PR

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related area of study;
Experience working in consumer electronics or technology PR for a large brand a plus;
Strategic, creative thinker comfortable with generating ideas, plans and getting those plans across the finish line;
Confident communicator and presenter, with an ability to influence change and present communications plans to Viasat’s senior leadership team;
Impeccable writing, editing, proofreading, layout/design skills; must be able to communicate concepts effectively;
Highly organized with depth in planning and execution;
Superior project management and time management skills;
Passionate, positive, self-starter who enjoys working in a cross-functional team environment;
Strong knowledge of MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, social media platforms and enterprise management tools, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop;
Ability to work after-hours and occasional weekends; and
Up to 30% travel.

Preferences

7+ years of communications/PR experience – either agency or in-house
Ability to plan and execute multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Proven ability to manage and track cross functional projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
BS/BA Degree
US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
