Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a dynamic, high level Process Technician to join our growing company.  Process Technicians at Viasat are involved from the release of hardware to the manufacturing floor through the finished product.  Our Process Technicians work with Program teams to plan out the product stages and best practices to be used out on the factory floor.  They have a high level of technical expertise and skill, which they use to set-up, modify, optimize and monitor production processes.  They examine process flows and look for ways to streamline production, improving turnaround times.  As part of our Satellite Production Team, we are looking for someone who has extensive skills and knowledge in Electro-mechanical integration testing, electronic repair, troubleshooting and equipment maintenance in satellite payload integration.  They must be a highly skilled, top-performing Process Technician with a broad spectrum skill set spanning electrical and mechanical systems as well as safety assurance.  They must be able to successfully blend strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with extensive knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.  Your people skills will come into play as you work across multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment. 

  • 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing of hi-rel space products.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of Engineering, Quality Assurance and Production teams
  • Ability to generate assembly work instructions for assembling hardware and test equipment.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies and errors in paperwork.
  • Ability to demonstrate general technical knowledge in manufacturing including interpreting complex engineering drawings, schematics, and diagrams
  • Ability to operate overhead crane structures
  • Support engineers in the development and execution of most spacecraft integration test plans and procedures for both mechanical and electrical test processes.
  • Support the performance of system assembly, integration, and test verifications of all spacecraft interfaces.
  • High level understanding of harness builds / crimp & soldering / rework
  • Must hold self personally accountable for responsislbities and deadlines
  • Must be a creative thinker with excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Must be flexible which includes working independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated high degree of Mechanical proficiency with common hand and power tools 
  • Understanding of the design and fabrication of shipping container
  • Experience troubleshooting process problems in a technical environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to communicate across levels and functions. Excellent organizational skills.
  • Associate’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience. 
  • U.S. Government Position.  U.S. Citizenship Required. 

  • Ability to perform machining on a Mill and Lathe.
  • Ability to drive a commercial vehicle
  • Ability to use common hand tools
  • Ability to perform general machine maintenance
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for many hours
  • Ability to build complex mechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Orders and the incorporation of change orders into hardware.
  • Familiarity with document control system
  • Understanding in the requirements to meet IPC-A-610 acceptability standard for Class 3 assemblies.
  • CAD software ability.
  • Clean room experience.
  • Electrical wiring experience
  • Understanding of Wire Harnessing concepts per IPC-WHMA-A-620
  • Understanding of basic electrical/RF concepts
