Job Responsibilities
As a Product Quality Engineer at Viasat, you will provide Quality Assurance support for the product offerings to which you are assigned; managing the quality and reliability performance of the products throughout their entire lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:

Development, review, and deployment of Quality System processes and procedures.

Assessment of customer, industry and regulatory requirements and the development of tailored Quality Plans that ensure compliance to requirements.

Development and execution of audit plans that ensure compliance to customer, industry and regulatory requirements. Drive resolution of compliance issues identified during audits.

Participation in:

  • Product development programs; ensuring that: 1) Quality, manufacturability and serviceability is designed into products, 2) Past lessons learned are applied, 3) Design risk assessments are performed, and 4) Key product design characteristics are identified.
  • Product reliability prediction and validation efforts.
  • The selection and qualification of suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Cross-functional teams tasked with the development of the processes used in the manufacture of products; ensuring that processes, inspections and tests have been adequately assessed with regards to capability and readiness. Further, ensure that manufacturing plans have been adequately documented with regards to process flow(s), key process characteristics, process monitoring methods and tools, process parameters and controls, acceptance / rejection criteria, required training and application performance metrics.
  • Product qualification; including product and test system conformities, test witnessing, first article inspection report reviews and sign-offs.
  • Product preservation methods development and testing.
  • Development and implementation of Receiving, In-process, Final and Source Inspection work instructions.
  • Review and implementation of Engineering changes; ensuring quality requirements continue to be met. 

Identification, containment, documentation and disposition of non-conformances; including the leadership of Material Review Board or Field Failure Review Board when applicable.

Facilitation of cross-functional team failure analyses and root cause investigations; ensuring timely and effective identification of point-of-failure, cause(s) of failure, root cause of failure and corrective action(s) that prevent recurrence.

Development and deployment of Key Performance Indicators for monitoring the performance of processes, driving continuous improvement of the Quality Management System and improving production efficiency.

Collection, analysis and reporting of quality performance data; utilizing statistical and analytical tools and methods (e.g., Pareto Analysis, Cause & Effect Matrix, DOE, SPC, Cpk, Gage Study, Concentration Diagrams, etc.).

Collaborative Management of supplier performance in conjunction with Supply Chain and Operations counterparts.


Requirements

  •  3+ years experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of Industry Quality Standards
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel to analyze data
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Travel up to 25%


Preferences

  • FAA or Aerospace industry experience
  • Manufacturing processing knowledge or experience
  • Knowledge of, and experience with AS9145
  • ASQ Certification
  • Experience with IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and J-STD-001
  • Coursework in Statistics and Quality Assurance 
  • Training in Lean-Six Sigma and use of tools sets
  • Understanding and interpretation of schematics and mechanical drawing as well as Solid Works models
  • Tableau, or other visualization software
