Job Responsibilities

This position provides a unique opportunity to apply cutting-edge technologies and work closely with customers to develop multi-function RF Systems from design through integration and test that support our nation's most critical defense programs.  This includes waveform modeling, simulation, algorithm development  and analysis to characterize performance, integration, and implementation on hardware, in SW and programmable logic.

Our development team is a diverse group dedicated to working in a collaborative environment with multidisciplinary teams that includes HW, SW, mechanical, networking, security and systems engineering to create innovative RF communications products and services.

Your Opportunity

As a RF Communications Engineer, you will utilize and build on a breadth of knowledge to use Software Define Radio (SDR) technology to collaboratively work with stakeholders to design, develop, analyze and test RF waveforms for SATCOM systems.

  • 8+ years RF Systems design, development, integration and test experience with a preference for satellite waveforms design and test for integrated SATCOM networks
  • Experience with antennas, modems, Software Defined Radios (SDR) and associated networking equipment used in satellite and wireless communications
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, hands-on entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong technical background in RF waveforms and systems (RADAR, EW, SATCOM, datalinks, etc. )
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams, Systems, security, SW, HW, analog and RF circuits and programmable logic design
  • Strong analytic/mathematics background with experience in RF waveform or system modeling, simulation, and analysis with a preference for SATCOM waveforms and systems
  • Experience using GNU Radio, Matlab, and/or Simulink
  • Active TS Clearance 
  • Active DoD TS SCI clearance
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • U.S. Citizenship Required 
  • Up to 10% domestic travel 


  • Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Previous experience implementing SATCOM waveforms or systems using SDR technology
  • Experience with satellite and wireless air interface standards and protocols
  • Ability to work in in a Linux environment
  • A strong technical background in RF waveform or SATCOM systems
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals
  • The ability to lead trade studies and architect innovative solutions to solve difficult technical problems
  • Highly Proficient in developing, implementing and testing RF systems and/or SATCOM waveforms
  • Working knowledge of modern FPGA architectures

At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. For United States-based jobs only: The pay range for this position is $151300 to $244950 annually; however, base pay may vary within this range depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
