Satellite Base Station Deployment Lead

Job description

The ideal candidate will have recent extensive experience with end to end management of large scale, multi-region satellite earth station, cellular or fiber optic deployment projects. She or He will also have extensive experience working with Architects, Electrical engineers, Civil Contractors and Utility Companies.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead a small team of civil works design and deployment project management professionals based in Lausanne, Switzerland
  • Accountable for the real estate acquisition, civil works design, civil works construction and equipment installation for satellite earth stations located across continental Europe
    • Acquisition consists of real estate identification & ultimately leasing of parcels which meet the program requirements. It includes as to oversee through the entire permitting process and ultimately obtain a valid build permit
    • Civil Works consists of a fenced compound (approx. 30 sq meters), Utility power service, fiber connectivity and small foundations
    • Installation consists of a 2.4m diameter antenna and an electronic cabinet
  • Accountable to identify and evaluate potential design and construction contractors across continental Europe
    • The process of identification, evaluation and contracting for these services is underway but must be accelerated and broadened
    • We anticipate needing up to 3 or 4 qualified design and construction partners in several different countries
    • Specific responsibility will be to identify potential contractors, evaluate their past experience, participate in contract negotiations and ultimately manage selected contractors to complete the civil works design and construction responsible to meet program requirements
  • Identification and resolution of design and construction challenges intrinsic with widespread wireless deployment programs
    • Communal and local resident objections and challenges
    • Regional anomalies and unique requirements
    • Coordination of utility construction and delivery (fiber, power, other)
    • Environmental (landscape management, radiation,…)
  • Define and administer Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that will be used to track program performance and to predict potential program challenges
    • Schedule performance
    • Budget performance
    • Contractor governance
  • Effectively manage a large amount of consultant & contractors helping us to achieve the different phases of the roll-out (Acquisition, Construction & Installation)

Requirements:

  • Proven extensive practical experience in Network Roll-Out
  • 10 years’ experience in Project Management
  • 5 years’ experience in leadership
  • Proven track record of technical lead in procurement activities such as RFI/RFP and managing design and deployment contractors on similar wireless deployments
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of management.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestic and international.
  • Fluent in English and French and/or German and/or Italian
  • Swiss, EU (27) Citizenship, or Valid Swiss Work Permit

Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Electricity or related scientific discipline
  • Excellent computer / reporting skills, including a high level of proficiency with MS Excel and other Project Management tools
  • Highly organised and able to multi-task and work effectively with limited supervision
  • Highly motivated self-starter- able to work under aggressive project schedules
  • Any additional EU language(s)
