Job description

We’re looking for a DWDM Optical Network Engineer to be a key part of a highly visible and business-critical technology team at Viasat.

What the role is all about:
 
You will be working on the design and architecture of the company’s core network infrastructure to support our expanding global satellite fleet. You will also work on layer 1 through layer 3 network design, capacity planning and platform management as well as the design of routes for fiber-based networks including point to point, ring, and path diverse routing.

You’re great at:
Using the experience gained during your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering to design complex optical networks
Applying your 10 years of relevant work experience with multi-vendor network equipment to architect complex DWDM systems
•    Interfacing with all departments in ViaSat, vendors, and subcontractors
•    Overseeing and reviewing work done by other engineers, technicians and other support staff
•    Estimating efforts accurately and thoroughly
Creating written network implementation design plans and troubleshooting system issues.
Working to automate networks components and network management systems.
Using your knowledge of 100G coherent technology to build long-haul networks
•    Understanding of routing, switching and basic network communication protocols

You might also have:
Experience with use of fiber network design, planning and mapping software tools such as 3-GIS, ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS
Coding and debugging in Java, Python, Golang, or other modern programming languages
Experience with continuous integration & delivery and DevOps methodologies
Operational experience working with major carriers
An understanding of outside plant construction requirements with fiber experience preferred
IP and Ethernet networking experience
