Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced hardware engineer who can operate as a key player in the design, development and test of hardware systems and subsystems across multiple projects. The role will be responsible for: 

  • Analysing requirements, high level architecture design, low level detailed design, implementation, systems integration, and design verification and validation 

  • Interfacing with interdisciplinary teams including systems, mechanical, software, test, configuration management, manufacturing and information assurance

  • Leading development activities, engage and direct other engineers to achieve a common goal and undertake line management activities for less experienced engineers

  • Overseeing, design implementation of leading edge hardware solutions

  • Providing a high level of assurance for the overall solution by being both hands-on and providing technical direction to other highly skilled engineers

  • Championing the Viasat culture and values through own behaviours and those of the wider team

  • Creating and promoting an inclusive and collaborative environment within own team and across the organisation

  • Participating in a feedback culture to provide positive challenge where appropriate and openly express own views and opinions 

Skills / Knowledge / Attributes

  • Degree 2:1 (Hons) or higher in electronic engineering or similar discipline

  • Full product life cycle development experience, from requirements management through to acceptance and support

  • Excellent understanding of electronic design fundamentals, high speed digital design and signal integrity

  • Proven track record of digital circuit development, including but not limited to, Microprocessor/FPGA based systems and Power Supplies

  • Experience of design and qualification for harsh/rugged environments (e.g. airborne)

  • Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) methodologies and techniques

  • Familiarity with product certification, regulatory compliance and volume manufacturing

  • Proficient with industry standard CAD toolsets (e.g. Cadence or Mentor Schematic & Layout Tools)

  • Practical capability with lab based test equipment

  • Ability to estimate development effort of hardware solutions

  • Excellent communication skills - both written, verbal and with the ability to communicate at all levels

  • Highly organised, self-motivated, able to multi-task and work to deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Must hold a UK passport and be capable of obtaining (or already hold) security clearance to work on UK Government projects.
