An experienced software engineer who can operate as a key player in the design, development and test of software systems and subsystems across multiple projects. The role will be responsible for:
  • Analysing requirements, high level architecture design, low level detailed design, implementation, test and integration
  • Leading development activities as scrum master. To engage with and direct other engineers to achieve a common goal and to undertake line management activities for less experienced engineers
  • Overseeing design and implementation of software solutions
  • Providing a high level of assurance for the overall solution by being both hands-on and providing technical direction to other highly skilled engineers
  • Championing the Viasat culture and values through own behaviours and those of the wider team
  • Creating and promoting an inclusive and collaborative environment within own team and across the organisation
  • Participating in a feedback culture to provide positive challenge where appropriate and openly express own views and opinions

Key Skills / Knowledge and Attributes
  • 3+ years of experience leading or participating in a scrum team
  • Full life-cycle software development experience
  • Ability to estimate development effort of software solutions
  • Solid C/C++ programming experience on Linux and/or Windows platforms
  • Sound understanding of operating system concepts such as multi-threading, process scheduling, inter-process communication, memory management and I/O
  • Scripting expertise with bash, python or similar
  • Configuration management and version control
  • Be IT literate in MS Office Word, Excel, etc
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience recruiting, building and maintaining technical teams
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Effective collaboration and positive behaviour
  • Effective and flexible team player
  • Ability to work independently
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, able to multi-task and work to deadlines
  • Able to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
  • Be reliable and hard working

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Degree 2:1 (Hons) or higher in a software engineering, computer science or similar discipline
  • Must hold a UK passport and be capable of obtaining (or already hold) security clearance to work on UK Government projects.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Attributes and Interests
  • Linux expert
  • Linux device driver experience
  • Web based user interface development experience
  • Experience with large scale wireless communication systems (SATCOM, LTE, etc.)
  • Networking experience:  TCP/IP, NAT, L2 Switching, Firewalls, AAA, DHCP
  • Experience managing Cisco switches and routers
  • Technical writing / documentation experience (Wiki, Word, Visio)

In addition, from time to time, you may be asked undertake other tasks and responsibilities not covered above in order to achieve project or business objectives.
