Viasat is seeking a talented Brazil Tax Manager - Indirect and Corporate Income Taxes to support our explosive growth. In this position, working for U.S. based multinational, you will have an important role ensuring Brazilian tax compliance and minimizing our Brazilian tax liability from a tax planning perspective. Because you are a key member of Finance Team, you will communicate across all levels of the organization and gain a solid understanding of Viasat’s business operations and functions. You will leverage your strong working knowledge of Brazils’ complex indirect and corporate income tax laws and regulations to maintain Viasat’s good standing status across all jurisdictions countrywide as Viasat expands it is business in Brazil in a dynamic manner. While not mandatory, the ideal candidate would have experience in the telecommunications industry.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the monthly closing of financial records process working in conjunction with other finance teams as it relates to tax matters in the income statement and balance sheet.
  • Assist in the managing of the local tax service providers to ensure performance objectives are met and the compliance of local regulatory requirements;
  • Ensure accurate and timely tax compliance (filings and payments) for indirect tax obligations and corporate income tax returns;
  • Take over tax responsibilities currently being completed by outside provider;
  • Assist stakeholders on tax related matters and respond to stakeholder queries on a timely basis;
  • Be responsible for the balances, accuracy and realizability of tax assets and liabilities on the balance sheet
  • Communicate with customers, suppliers and service providers addressing tax matters
  • Partner with business leaders, tax, finance, treasury, legal teams, and external advisers on various business and operational matters;
  • Identify, analyze and implement appropriate tax strategies and best practices to reduce overall liabilities within the legal framework;
  • Monitor regulatory tax law developments and be able to communicate impact and suggest process changes; 
  • Analyze, prepare and/or validate documentation and information needed to support tax audits and inspections;
  • Support product testing (for proper tax structure) in the billing and accounting systems.
  • Participate in meetings with tax inspectors, special regime meetings, customers and suppliers as appropriate.
  • Work with Legal and Operations in filing special regime filings as necessary and ensure compliance
  • Work with global tax team in ensuring compliance with Brazilian and global tax transfer pricing requirements

  • 5+ years of significant experience in accounting and indirect tax, ideally with corporate income tax experience also.  Prior telecommunication experience is highly desired.
  • It is highly desired that candidate has worked at a Big 4 accounting firm in the tax area.
  • Deep knowledge of Brazilian indirect taxes, mainly about ICMS and ICMS-ST, but also IPI, PIS, COFINS and ISS;
  • Experience working with international companies, ideally in telecommunications
  • Knowledge of accounting concepts of local GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Strong tax technical skills in indirect tax with analytical ability to determine and communicate accurate and innovative tax decisions using Brazilian tax legislation with appropriate legal and business support;
  • Knowledge of Brazil transfer pricing as it relates to indirect taxes and importation
  • Knowledge relating to processing and administering tax matters in accordance with Brazil requirements.  This includes electronic and manual filing, invoicing, and reporting requirements for the various taxes owed in Brazil
  • Ability to handle complex accounting and tax issues / projects in a multi-tasking environment, define project plans, perform research, meet strict content deadlines and budgets, interact and communicate with individuals/groups at all levels within the organization;
  • Knowledge and experience with state registrations / reporting / special regimes
  • Self-directed with outstanding verbal English and Portuguese communication skills working with cross-functional teams in a collaborative manner
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, doesn’t compromise on accuracy.  Obsessed to ensure no deadlines are missed.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently while understanding the importance of elevating questions/concerns promptly
  • Fluent in both English and Portuguese, verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics or finance
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Brazil tax software related to indirect tax applications.
  • Up to 15% travel, domestic and international

  • Master’s degree in accounting
  • CRC certificate
  • Written and spoken proficiency in Spanish is a plus
  • Knowledge in the accounting and reporting systems of Oracle
