As part of our growth plans, Viasat UK is recruiting a Test Development Engineer, working on multiple Data at Rest products with emphasis on Cyber Security and Information Assurance technologies. In this role, you’ll be part of a team developing the next generation of highly secure storage solutions used to protect critical data for government and defence computers, tablets, and embedded platforms. As such, this position requires our design engineers to hold or be able to obtain UK Government SC clearance. 

 

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate is an experienced Test Development Engineer who can operate in a multi-disciplined team designing, developing, and testing bespoke secure, high-speed digital design solutions for securing Data at Rest. In this role you will be responsible for the definition and implementation of design proving and production acceptance testing for new product developments. This will include the design and development of custom hardware and software.

 

In this role, you’ll be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team:

  • You’ll work with the project team to define and deliver the design proving and manufacturing test strategy.
  • You’ll work with the Project Manager to define the project plan and ensure delivery is against the plan
  • You’ll own the generation and execution of design proving test procedures. 
  • You’ll work with Viasat’s System, Hardware and Software Engineers to integrate and validate the system solution.  
  • You’ll work with the development and Operations teams to develop a manufacturing test solution, working with internal and external resources to deliver to the agreed plan.
  • You’ll represent Viasat’s culture of innovation, inclusion, and collaboration – working together with others to rise to the challenges and opportunities that are part of an innovative, fast-paced technology-centered organisation.  

 

Requirements

  • Degree 2.1(Hons) or higher in Electronic Engineering or similar discipline
  • Must have, or be capable of obtaining, UK security clearance
  • Experience defining and executing system test strategies and procedures for embedded products involving hardware and software.
  • Experience defining production test strategies and processes.
  • Design and development of production test equipment, including hardware and software for use in manufacturing.
  • Good understanding of Hardware, Software and Mechanics.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills—a team player who is able to work independently and cooperatively to project milestones
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc)

 

Desirable Experience

  • Requirements analysis, capture, and management.
  • Design experience in Hardware or Software.
  • EMC and environmental testing.
  • Use of Python or C/C++ for the development of test applications on embedded platforms and PCs.
  • Use and application of JTAG for debug and test.

 

Further Details

  • You’ll be based at our office in Farnborough with occasional UK travel. The role is office based, but with flexibility for working from home depending on project requirements.
