Job Responsibilities

As a Field Applications Engineer you'll provide customer, production, and engineering support for Government and Commercial IP-centric SATCOM systems. You will support the overall functionality and troubleshooting of SATCOM hubs and remote terminals by working with other Viasat personnel to include software, hardware and mechanical engineers, as well as configuration management, production, test and technical publications staff. You'll perform on-site installations, formal acceptance tests, marketing demonstrations, and training of SATCOM equipment and will build and maintain training material, user manuals, procedures, and other related documentation. You'll provide integration and troubleshooting support of Viasat equipment into customer equipment and install, analyze, configure and solve a variety of RF and IP/Networking equipment issues associated with SATCOM hubs. Additionally, you will integrate a number of hubs and provide resolution of sophisticated system problems. This role will require collaboration with customers and other Viasat support staff in a highly professional and effective manner.


  • 4+ years' of experience with commercial and military based SATCOM systems
  • Validated experience with Viasat SATCOM products including our Ka networks, and the EBEM and LinkWay products
  • Solid understanding of RF equipment, including up converters, down converters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IP equipment, including configuration, application and troubleshooting of routers, switches, IP networks and servers
  • Validated knowledge of RF Fundamentals
  • Proven Linux and Solaris OS experience
  • Associates Degree in a technical field or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to pass skills testing for grip and static strength, dynamic lifting and work/positional tolerances
  • US government position. US citizenship required
  • Active Secret Clearance or have held one within the last two years
  • Ability to travel up to 50% domestic and international

  • Experience with SATCOM antenna equipment and installations
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Solid understanding of IP encryption devices, RF equipment, standard test equipment
  • DVB-S2 waveform and communications theory
  • Active CCNA certification

If the Federal Executive Order for Government Contractors becomes effective, this role may require vaccination. In such instance, absent an approved accommodation based on a religious or medical reason, employees in this role will be required to be fully vaccinated no later than applicable deadlines, which are unknown at this point.
