Scope/Purpose of Role

The Business Development and Campaign Manager role will be pivotal in securing opportunities for Viasat UK’s across the land market including an intimate understanding of our customer needs to develop closure campaign strategies to deliver and generate a LAND CIS pipeline. You will work within the growing Business Development (BD)and Capture team, with responsibility to integrate with the wider UK business functions to ensure coherence, alignment and expertise from wider Viasat.  You will ideally be an experienced business development person who has operated in the military Land domain with a G6/J6 background. Ideally you will be used to operating in a lean start up methodology, with independence, flexibility of approach and ability to engage at all levels of the user community.

Main Responsibilities/Key Tasks

Using your defence and business experience, you will develop and implement a capture approach to maintaining and improving Viasat business, primarily in the C4IS Land Environment (LE) within UK MoD and where required, across wider government groups.

  • Using your knowledge of, and relationships with, the Defence Community and the Armed Forces domain, you will:
  • Identify and document customer challenges from across Defence and primarily the LE so that you can bring together the necessary Viasat and partner resources.
  • Be working primarily into Directorate of Information (DInfo); able to identify new leads, potential new market opportunities and new market initiatives in the LE.
  • Lead internal business cases and help manage bids and proposals.
  • Ideally have an understanding of UK Defence and Army procurement to assist the sales team in any contract negations or tenders.
  • Attend meetings, conferences or host members of the Armed Forces, government departments, other industry stakeholders to help the better understands Viasat’s portfolio and brand.
  • Be the capture lead for any C4ISR Land based tenders that Viasat or its partners wish to bid, which includes working alongside commercial, technical and operational areas.
  • Maintain, capture and track new business leads and opportunities using the Viasat BD support tools
  • In addition, from time to time, you may be asked undertake other tasks and responsibilities not covered above inorder  to achieve project or corporate objectives.

Skills/Knowledge/Areas of expertise

You will have a wide experience across the Defence industry and/or government services, enjoy a fast-paced, innovative environment where you are being counted on to develop winning strategies, define and drive solutions.   You will be able to work in teams but also independently.  You will be self-motivated and enjoy challenge as well as being comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced high growth environment. 

  • Requirements:

  • Capable of obtaining (or already hold) security clearance (SC or higher) to work on UK Government projects (essential)
  • In depth knowledge and experience of UK MOD Formations; including the relevant Front Line Command, Operational, Scientific and Procurement Organisations. In particular, you will have a deep and current understanding of the Land C4IS domain and how they choose to Operate now and in the future (essential)
  • An understanding and preferably experience of related technology and innovations suited for the UK C4IS Land environment and their supported/planned programmes (for example LETACCIS and Zodiac) (highly desirable)
  • In depth knowledge of sales development and capture, capability forecasting and challenger sales processes.(highly desirable)
  • Have existing relationships with serving and supporting members of the LAND domain that can be leveraged in order to grow the UK Business. (essential)
  • Ability to explain end user issues to technical leads and engineers and understand and shape the available technical solutions. (essential)
  • Existing or demonstrable ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with the MOD/Defence Networks, C2 and Cyber community, both in industry and military/government. (essential)
  • Excellent communication, organisational, motivational, team-working and IT skills. (essential)
  • Creative talents and the ability to solve tough problems. (highly desirable)
  • The ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines. (essential)
  • Skill in prioritising and triaging obligations. (highly desirable)
  • Willingness to travel - UK and International. (essential)

Preferences:

  • A degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge of security evaluation processes.
  • Experience of working in UK Defence and/or Government security markets.
  • Experience of sales marketing and Capture
