Job Responsibilities

You are an experienced software engineer who has led high performing teams, or you have a desire to grow into a leadership role. You understand what’s involved in nurturing high performing engineering teams, establish agile and lean practices and create a data driven culture. 

You thrive on helping and guiding the team in any number of ways whether facilitating a review for a new component or API, resolving differences in approach, addressing things which slow the team down or reduce their ability to deliver high quality software. Your primary focus is the team, but you are comfortable leaning into the work where appropriate.

You understand the full lifecycle of the software delivery process and are able to communicate effectively how to iteratively refine requirements to ensure work is presented to the team as a consolidated, prioritised backlog of work which has been sufficiently well defined.  You have facilitated team ceremonies such as stand ups, retrospectives and product reviews and have evolved the delivery workflow by adjusting WIP (work in progress) limits, entry and exit criteria, and team working agreements.

As a software engineer you understand the challenges associated with delivering high quality, high value software and/or services.  You have a broad interest in and understanding of the current relevant trends across areas such as UX, UI, Web Services, Cloud Computing, Continuous Delivery etc.  You are passionate about continuous improvement, unrelenting in identifying and addressing things which slow teams down or reduce their ability to deliver high quality software. You are happy to spend some of your time mentoring and coaching members of the team, helping them advance and grow.

Requirements

Enable an empowered cross functional product development team to develop entertainment products and services for travelers, across air, sea and rail.
Drive change and capability building initiatives across engineering and product development overall. Examples might include continuous deployment; user analytics; product discovery.
Hire and help retain world-class software engineering talent by contributing to team ways of working and culture.
Provide people management support for our Dublin-based engineering organisation, helping our people achieve their personal career goals and our key product outcomes.
Facilitate the team e.g. team ceremonies; enabling transparency; engaging key stakeholders. 
Measure, report and act upon on key metrics reflecting the objectives of the engineering organisation.  Specifically, delivery lead time, release frequency, mean time to restore, change failure frequency.
Identify, measure and enable the team to act upon leading indicators for key metrics. For example, cost of release, code coverage by test automation.
Coordinate quarterly goal setting activities for people and the team within an existing framework.
Build alignment within the team, and with direct stakeholders, to foster better collaboration and shared understanding.
Contribute to software architecture, software quality, technical practices and help staff to drive successful delivery of our products.
Promote an environment of data driven decision making, advancing our product instrumentation and analytics capabilities.
Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, excellence and a fun working environment for the team.

Skills

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field or equivalent practical hands-on experience.
  • Experience in a software management position.
  • Experience contributing to technology and product strategy.
  • Proven experience with hiring, team building and personnel management.
  • Experience leading capacity building initiatives across diverse areas such as infrastructure and operations automation, software quality, delivery automation and other core engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience of driving operational efficiency and transparency of a growing engineering organization.
