Job Responsibilities
You will be working within our Advanced Networking and Cybersecurity team in creating next-generation technologies and services that provide secure and resilient communications to the furthest reaches in some of the most challenging operating environments.   Our team is passionate about applying innovative solutions to solving these difficult real-world problems.  You’ll work in a collaborative and inclusive environment that fosters responsibility and ownership at every level with a focus on continuous learning and growth.

In this role, you will drive the system engineering process from requirements to test in a networking and communications environment. This will include system and subsystem specifications and software architectural design. You will work with interdisciplinary teams including Business Development, Systems, Software, Hardware design, and others. You will help architect solutions to customer problems, define interfaces to existing Viasat capability and drive ambiguity out of potential solutions under development.

Requirements:
  • 8+ years Communication and/or network systems design experience
  • Strong System, Software, or Test background including design and implementation
  • Understanding of network fundamentals
  • Deep understanding of DoD system engineering processes from requirements to test with experience in managing process activities
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams including Business Development, Systems, Software, hardware design / COTS integration, and others
  • Experience designing and integrating Command and Control networks for DoD customers
  • Required to lead the technical execution of internally and customer funded research and development efforts through leadership of a multi-discipline engineering team
  • Required to lead positive customer engagements for status of existing / ongoing work or development of new business
  • Must have working knowledge of scheduling / estimating / budgeting / risk analysis to assist program manager in the baseline and management of projects / programs
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Travel up to 10%
  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
Preferences:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Understanding of model-based system engineering techniques
  • Satellite communications experience
  • Knowledge of RF transport fundamentals
  • Ability to obtain DoD TS/SCI clearance

If the Federal Executive Order for Government Contractors becomes effective, this role may require vaccination.  In such instance, absent an approved accommodation based on a religious or medical reason, employees in this role will be required to be fully vaccinated no later than applicable deadlines, which are unknown at this point.  Viasat will strive to give individuals as much notice as practicable if a vaccine mandate becomes applicable to this role.
