Job Responsibilities

As a Viasat security professional, you will support all aspects of the collateral security program for our Marlborough, Massachusetts office as the Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO), Alternate COMSEC Custodian and at Reception. You will maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external customers. Your contributions will support strict compliance with government, customer, and company security policies and procedures such as IAW 32 CFR Part 117 National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), NSA CSS 3/16, contractually imposed Program Security Directives/Guides, and the Viasat Corporate Standard Practices Procedures (SPP). You will work in close alignment with the Marlborough FSO and the Corporate Security office located in Carlsbad, CA to support a variety of interesting and dynamic programs.

Duties will include document control, destruction and accountability, briefings, classification management, records maintenance, visitor control, meeting coordination, incident response, self-inspections, physical security, COMSEC management, and general office support, etc. You will interface with DCSA, NSA, government customers, and contractor personnel in a professional manner.

Additional duties:

  • Support aspects of the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) and other security activities within the facility in accordance with the NISPOM, NSA 3-16 and other applicable government or corporate security directives.
  • Responsible for aspects of document control and accountability to include classification management, maintaining Security Information Management accountability system, destruction, and inventory management.
  • Assist new hires with clearance processing, conduct security briefings, and maintain local security personnel records.
  • Visitor control administration and coordination of meetings.
  • Participate in periodic self-inspections as required by the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA), NSA and other reviews.
  • Conduct indoctrination, periodic, refresher security education and training.
  • Have ability to respond to after-hour alarms and emergency conditions.
  • Serve as Alternate COMSEC Custodian: Perform duties associated with maintaining a compliant COMSEC Account using the DIAS records database.
  • Order, receive/dispatch, and store COMSEC equipment and keying material.
  • Implement safety related duties as required with oversight and direction from Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety staff.
  • Provide assistance to facility operations, shipping and receiving, maintenance activities, and site events.
  • Provide information system support and emergency response.
  • Assist the IT Security team with occasional low level support (i.e. physically connecting a replacement system, removing a designated system or perform hard reboot, etc.).

  • 2-4 years’ experience supporting the DoD or cleared defense industry in a security function.
  • Knowledgeable of the requirements and implementation of the NISPOM.
  • Familiarity with security applications (e.g., DISS, NISS, SIMS, DIAS).
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Possess the interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, possess good problem-solving skills and able to enforce policies in a professional and personable manner.
  • Availability to respond to after-hours alarms and emergency conditions.
  • Strong administration skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to possess and maintain DoD Secret level clearance.

  • Experience as a Primary or Alternate COMSEC Custodian.
  • NSA COR COMSEC Account Manager Training Course.
  • In-Process or completion of the DCSA National Security Learning Center FSO Curriculum.
  • DIAS and/or KMI Experience
  • SIMS experience

If the Federal Executive Order for Government Contractors becomes effective, this role may require vaccination.  In such instance, absent an approved accommodation based on a religious or medical reason, employees in this role will be required to be fully vaccinated no later than applicable deadlines, which are unknown at this point.  Viasat will strive to give individuals as much notice as practicable if a vaccine mandate becomes applicable to this role.
