This is an exciting role for an experienced EHS professional who is looking to make a difference in the field of environmental, health, and safety. A position with Viasat allows you to be a part of dynamic and innovative projects while providing mentoring and professional development. This position is responsible for identifying opportunities and driving EHS improvement for our Duluth, GA area campuses. Reporting to the regional EHS Lead, this position will be working to support programs, processes, and procedures within different business sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver new hire orientation training
  • Maintain records for safety programs (i.e. training logs, reports, inspections)
  • Implement and train new or existing training programs to employees and supervision as needed
  • Inspect facilities to detect existing or potentially unsafe conditions
  • Lead investigations on incidents and near misses to identify root causes and help supervision develop corrective actions
  • Engage operations and engineering team members to properly follow work methods in their daily job functions
  • Completes observations and coaching of high-risk activities as needed
  • Support site management in the implementation of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) plans
  • Promote a workplace that is a proactive safety culture
  • Interface with regulatory bodies (OSHA, DOT, EPA, and State/Local Regulators)
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA and ISO standards
  • Maintain compliance with site environmental permits
  • Develop effective interdepartmental relationships
  • Display strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills
  • Demonstrate professional maturity and ability to act as a change member
  • Support execution of the Viasat Emergency Preparedness Plan
  • Interpret, train, and consistently enforce Viasat EHS practices, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain operations and facilities relations through regular interactions and communication, monitor team morale, and provide feedback to leadership when needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in occupational safety and health, fire protection engineering, environmental science, industrial engineering, environmental management or related field, and 5+ years experience; or equivalent years' experience in related field
  • Working knowledge and experience in general manufacturing safety processes, procedures, and requirements
  • Working knowledge and experience with general and/or construction OSHA requirements
  • Working knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping and reporting
  • OSHA 30 and DOT HazMat Certifications 
  • Must be able to lift, up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for 8+ hrs. daily and climb stairs
  • Exemplary initiative and a learn-by-doing mentality are encouraged
  • Must have strong communication and written skills, be proficient in MS Office programs, and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Attention to detail will be critical to the success of projects
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, set, and meet targets
  • Self-motivated with high energy to achieve results

Preferences

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities
  • Working knowledge of EPA permitting requirements
  • Certified CPR instructor
  • Strong analytical mindset and ability to create, analyze, and provide performance improvement opportunities using a variety of data-driven tools
  • Ability to work well in an ambiguous culture
  • A passion for EHS, sustainability, and social responsibility and an in-depth understanding of the global context, various stakeholders, concerns, and impacts related to this discipline
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, etc.
