Are you passionate about Design Systems? This is your opportunity to work hands-on throughout the summer and learn more about system design at scale.
As a Product Design intern working on the Design Systems Team, you will conduct research, design components, and write documentation that will have an impact on designers and developers throughout the organization. In this role, you will take on complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, accessible, and easy-to-use solutions. You will work with other system designers, product designers, user researchers, and engineers on a design system that is built to support various applications with different user goals. You will anticipate what our users need (designers/developers), advocate for them and help ensure the final product (the design system) is adopted, useful, and intuitive.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist with research for UI best practices to influence new and existing components
- Participate in research activities with designers and developers to improve the design system
- Design accessible components and create documentation that will be consumed by designs and developers throughout Viasat
- Assist with bug fixes and component updates in various design libraries
- Participate in design sprints side by side with system designers and developers on the Design System Team
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in UX/HCI/HF, graphic design, or related fields
- A portfolio of your previous works that demonstrates the ability to use styles and components to keep application designs on-brand, consistent, and efficient
- Great attention to detail
- Demonstrated proficiency with Figma
- Creative curiosity, analytical, & hardworking enthusiasm
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter, collaborative, and independent
- Strong background in user-centered design principles
- Ability to commit to a 10-12 week summer internship
Preferences
- Working experience in UX/HCI/HF, graphic design, or related fields
- Familiarity with frontend technologies (React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Storybook)
- Rising senior or graduate student standing
