Job Description

We have a new opening in our growing CXRD Department! In this role, the successful candidate will work on challenges a designer would face while setting up, launching, supporting, and iterating on all aspects of a multi-national web domain for a diverse group of business segments/units! As part of the Viasat Customer Experience Research & Design team, you will collaborate with a product team and work with Product Management, Marketing, and Engineering partners, to build amazing experiences and help deliver design-driven value into the domain. You will spearhead work through all stages of design, from requirements definition to final visual design production and everything in between.

We are looking for a Lead Designer who is system-oriented with appealing visual output, and who and can help bring experience to bear while keeping an open mind to new opportunities. The role also requires working closely with other members of the design team to build a coherent experience and help advance the design practice across Viasat. As the role evolves, there will be an opportunity to engage with other products and services within the organization as you look to improve the customer journey holistically.

Job Responsibilities

  • Working end to end: translating customer problems into high-level solutions, and designing workflows, detailed interactions, and visual designs, all while keeping outcomes front of mind.
  • Proposing and participating in research activities with our customers.
  • Stating clear problems based on research and data and aligning the team on them.
  • Exploring concepts in order to deliver the best solution.
  • Creating simple, elegant solutions to complex interaction problems.
  • Iterating design based on research findings and feedback from the team, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Forming relationships and working closely with different groups (Engineering, Marketing, Product Management, Customer Success, etc.) to enable the delivery of great products and solutions.
  • Working with the design team to help build a comprehensive vision of the customer experience.
  • Work-shopping—helping to facilitate conversations with different groups across the domain.
  • Helping Product Management and teams ask better questions, influencing the brief.

Requirements

  • Significant experience crafting consumer-facing “.coms”, taking them global/international ideally.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with Design, Product, Marketing, and agile Software Development teams.
  • Great understanding of web and responsive design.
  • Ability to work with, as well as chip in to, a ‘design system’.
  • Demonstrable UX thinking with design execution to produce usable and intuitive user interfaces.
  • Business analysis savvy and empathy to develop engaging user journeys.
  • Contemporary design tools familiarity to include tools such as Figma, Miro, etc.
  • Experience and understanding of the entire product development process, from problem-solving to detailed interaction and visual design.
  • The ability to think and design in terms of systems, not just interface elements.
  • Have solid presentation skills.
  • A desire to make things better coupled with a healthy balance of humility and confidence.
  • Always be focused on delivery and quality; know when—and how—to compromise to achieve forward progress and when to stand your ground to ensure the best possible user experience.
