Our Viasat Command and Control Communications (C3) business unit provides U.S. and International Governments the connectivity to operate airborne refueling, passenger, cargo, and command and control fleets more effectively. It is a worldwide mission that uses mobile technology products and services to adaptively deliver the accurate data to the right users across multiple platforms. The business focuses on the C-17, C-130, C-5, KC-135, KC-46, B-707/747 platforms supporting the Mobility Air Forces (MAF) and Nuclear Command and Control (NC3) mission sets.

The C3 Government Business Unit Director will function as a hands-on leader of a core team of dynamic, experienced individuals to support the growth and management of the business. We desire forward-thinking, energetic, and productive individuals that have the flexibility and agility to support rapid and balanced growth. We are looking for an individual who is a leader with an entrepreneurial, proactive spirit that has demonstrated experience working with development teams to build product and service solutions with innovative business models to monetize a defense market that is shifting its focus on networked solutions and technologies.

Leading the C3 business by developing and implementing strategic plans and initiatives to grow our company is a crucial aspect of the position. This position requires an energizing and productive individual to lead a successful team in a dynamic environment with minimal strategic direction.

Responsibilities include:

  • Business Area Management: Leading all aspects of P&L activity, including strategic planning for internal and external customers, to include Customer Relationships and Capture Management activities; leading all aspects of development and maintenance of product roadmaps; leading go/no-go management decisions regarding new products/projects; leading and developing personnel within Viasat’s unique culture.
  • Team Building: Maintaining and building cross-functional teams while fostering strong personal ownership; improving various engineering processes that must evolve to enable faster innovation; navigating Viasat’s culture and replicating these values within the team; assessing talent and building a balanced team that provides a solid base for growth, connection, and a proven track record.
  • Customer Relationship: Developing and fostering customer relationships inside and outside of Viasat and identifying key decision-makers.

In this role, you will have overall responsibility for the performance of all aspects of the C3 business area, program execution through leadership, program scheduling, financial reporting, and budgeting, managing contract deliverables while identifying and mitigating risks, and working with program customers (internal and external). You should have a proven track record of team leadership, problem-solving, performance analysis and metrics, making trade decisions, and achieving the goals of a program or business area.

The primary requirements for this position are demonstrated capabilities in leadership, collaboration, technical, and interpersonal maturity, and a passion for excellence in program and business management.


  • 15+ years technical and/or program leadership activities for hardware/software development efforts or a combination of operational Program Element Management experience on MAF/C3 weapon systems
  • 8+ years managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated experience working on or with Government programs
  • Proven oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to affect change through influence
  • Experience functioning in an integrated team that operates across multiple locations
  • Ability to apply a collaborative/consultative working and leadership style, relying on common sense and personal competence for persuasion and consensus building
  • Proven ability to manage capture and proposal efforts and participate in ongoing business development
  • Basic understanding of contract types and risk management practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline
  • US Government position. US Citizenship required
  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance or has held one in the last two years
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
