Job Responsibilities

We are seeking a talented Product Design Lead to join Viasat’s Customer Experience Research & Design (CXRD) team designing the future of IT Security enterprise applications.  In this roll you will be solving complex problems based on quantitative and qualitative data that you will be gathering from real users.  The work will encompass the whole design and user experience process from envisioning future concepts and defining user flows to detailed interaction designs and prototypes, user testing and assisting development teams with final implementation. In this role you will crystallize the problem space and guide the team to research, ideate and produce delightful experiences, outcomes and solutions. This position requires you to take hands on responsibility coaching and mentoring other team members about Design processes, best practices and the value they deliver.  To succeed in this role, you must be passionate about UX and be a self-starter who is constantly challenging themself and their colleagues to grow.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Influence and lead design thinking across the IT Security Engineering team, leading and creating human-centered experiences and product design processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and teams to define and implement innovative solutions for the product and services direction.
  • Conceptualize and iterate original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design problems.
  • Guide, support and balance team recommendations with research, analytics, usability testing, user insights and other quantitative/qualitative insights as appropriate to advance ideas.
  • Act as the user-advocate during the product development process, present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to the team and product stakeholders with an ability to see the big picture while maintaining careful attention to detail.
  • Lead and guide the following activities: UX Research, Heuristic evaluations, Persona creation, defining design briefs, storyboarding, high & low fidelity prototyping, flow diagramming, information architecture, interaction design etc.
  • Manage and prioritize projects and scope and plan design activities and outputs within the team.
  • Work interdependently and collaboratively with team members on key initiatives to ensure that the creative execution maintains a strong, consistent look and feel.
  • Utilize and contribute to design patterns that will enable a consistent visual user experience across products and platforms.
  • Helping Product Management, and other stakeholders, ask better questions and influencing the brief.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience designing outstanding digital products.
  • Strong portfolio outlining ideation process, design thinking, interaction and visual design across a wide range of user experiences.
  • Thorough understanding of the agile software lifecycle and ability to communicate and engage with frontend and backend engineering teams to iterate and achieve the best solutions.
  • Experience and understanding of the entire product development process, from problem solving through to detailed interaction and visual design.
  • Ability to think and design in terms of systems not just interface elements.
  • Be able to create high-fidelity mockups of your designs using Figma, Sketch, etc.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with diverse range of stakeholders.

Preferences

  • A Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science or related field – or

commensurate work experience.

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript.
  • Portfolio examples of enterprise applications.
  •  Interest in learning cybersecurity and reducing cybersecurity risks. 
  • Knowledge/Experience with front end development frameworks like: React, Ionic, Bootstrap, Semantic UI, Foundation, Angular, Polymer, Flask, Django

At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. For Colorado-based jobs only: The minimum for this position is $142,650 annually; however, base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
