About the team:

The BFT2 Field Services Engineer will provide customer, production, and engineering support for both government and commercial systems, including hubs, remote terminals, and COTS equipment. This support will include a mixture of remote and onsite support for the existing BFT2 network. Key responsibilities include support with deployment, documentation, training, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the various L-Band based hub locations and the remote terminals that operate on these hubs. We work effectively with both internal and external personnel with various skillsets. Disciplines requiring support include software, hardware, electrical, IP networking, configuration management, and technical publications.

As a member of this team, your remote support duties include the operation of the existing L-Band hubs, including initial system configuration, performance monitoring, analyze statistical data, and resolve complex system problems. We interface remotely with customers and other ViaSat groups via phone and email to provide issue resolution and answer customer questions. This support will be provided 24/7 and require each Service Engineer to participate in an on-call rotation. Additional duties include the creation and update of training material, user manuals, procedures, and other related documentation.

Standard on-site support duties include CONUS and OCONUS support of installations, testing, training, and maintenance of all current and future hub locations. This includes hardware, networking, and RF component maintenance and repair, software test and integration, as well as routine maintenance and configuration changes. This position is crucial for supporting both current and future L-band system customers within the services group.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Interact with customers via phone and email on troubleshooting problems
  • Analyze complex system issues and perform corrective actions
  • Perform On-Site maintenance at each site on a monthly basis
  • Conduct training at various local and remote sites
  • Design and update training and operator manuals used by the customer
  • Perform remote maintenance and software updates
  • Operate and maintain customer and ViaSat L-band Networks
  • Configure and update Network configuration changes.
  • Conduct software test and integration

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting SATCOM networks and terminals
  • Experience with Linux based servers and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work with IP/Network problems at all layers of OSI model
  • Ability to pass skills testing for grip and static strength, dynamic lifting and work/positional tolerances.
  • US government position. US Citizenship required.
  • Active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one
  • On call, willingness to travel; 25%-50%

Preferences:

  • Experience using Python, C++, Java
  • CCNA or Linux certification
