This Role:

Viasat is seeking a new accounting manager within its Global Business Solutions (GBS) division. GBS is an emerging team at Viasat unlocking new ways to keep businesses connected worldwide. This team supports businesses of all shapes and sizes by providing high-speed internet where others can’t or won’t go, helping them to maintain reliable operations and achieve their entrepreneurial goals. This position will provide primary support to the managed WiFi business within GBS’s product portfolio, including financial planning, analysis, reporting, customer billing / contract administration and accounting close related activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 2-3 analysts/accountants supporting government contracts; provide coaching and active feedback
  • Support and perform month end close activities, working closely with the broader GBS finance team and corporate accounting / finance teams
  • Preparation of financial analysis in all aspects of planning and estimation processes related to budgeting, strategic planning and monthly/quarterly forecasts
  • Monitor program performance against forecast and budget goals and explain significant variances
  • Preparation of accurate, timely and consistent reporting as well as key actionable financial metrics and KPIs
  • Partner cross-functionally to drive both business area and division level projects from planning to execution
  • Communicate directly with customers on contracts and contract modifications
  • Maintain strong understanding of internal reporting tools and systems to help ensure financial data integrity; ensure compliance with internal controls
  • Actively seek out improvement opportunities and contribute to the design and implementation of new processes or procedures focused on improving financial reporting/analysis and driving efficiencies

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • 6+ years’ progressive experience in accounting and/or finance roles
  • Experience generating financial forecasts, including P&L and Balance Sheet elements
  • Experience in a project-oriented business operation with a good working knowledge of project accounting.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP accounting
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective two-way communication by giving clear directions, listening to others’ points of view and keeping others informed on company matters that affect them
  • Advanced aptitude and skills working with a Financial ERP system and proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Confidence to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated track record of developing high performing teams
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to drive constant process improvements; desire to upgrade knowledge / skills and accept greater responsibilities willingly
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related area
  • Travel up to 10%, may include international


  • MBA in Finance, Accounting or related field and / or CPA
  • Proficiency in Oracle, Hyperion Planning and Essbase
  • Experience in the in telecommunications, cable, satellite business a plus
