Chief Enterprise Architect is a leadership role that helps define the strategy and vision for architecture across Viasat. The role requires participation in building our technical strategy, but also operationalizing the same. Identifying and applying key industry trends in processes, methodologies and tools will be expected. This role requires that the leader works with various leaders (including CXOs) and senior individuals across the organization and build stakeholder buy-in. A keen understanding and an ability to assess organizational strengths and weakness and make the choices appropriate to the organization is important. It is also expected that in addition to technical expertise, the individual has strong communications skills including communicating with non-technical audiences.

Job Responsibilities
  • Overall architecture across the enterprise, including platform and services roadmap
  • Creating inherently secure, scalable, resilient and modular architectures that can be deployed both internally as well as globally in third party and client locations
  • Helping in crafting product strategies around APIs and data assets
  • Communicate the architecture vision across the enterprise and help various segments adopt and adapt the proposed solutions
  • Help with reviews and audits of existing architectures and implementations and help with refactoring architectures if required.
  • Perform analysis of best practices, emerging concepts in systems and software engineering and help lead tradeoff studies and evangelize adoption of the right solutions for the enterprise
  • Create artifacts that document the proposed solutions - architectures, designs, tooling and processes
  • Work with the Viasat security team to ensure that best practices in cybersecurity are applied and conform to Viasat’s and industry standards
  • Have a strong interest in operationalizing the architectures and stay involved in assessing, profiling implementations of the architectures
  • Help product managers with technical inputs and assessment of systems, software and tools
  • Lead and mentor software and solution architects

Requirements
  • Must be comfortable building systems architecture artifacts and effectively communicate them to execution teams
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns and refactoring practices
  • Experience building and deploying consumer facing software at scale, globally
  • Demonstrate experience in distributed systems, cloud computing architecture
  • Strong knowledge of SaaS, infrastructure and software development lifecycle tools
  • Expertise in Agile development and DevOps solution delivery
  • Knowledge of security and data protection tools
  • Knowledge of designing data intensive applications
  • Experience in software development and testing methodologies, compatible with rapid learning approaches such as lean and persistent product teams
  • Familiarity with facilitating and exploiting AI techniques and frameworks
  • Experience as a technical lead, organizing workshops and mentoring engineers
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited university
