Job Responsibilities

Our team is responsible for building and operating a suite of tools which house large volumes of data and making that data available for managing our ground systems and making operational decisions. We need someone whose energy, drive, and curiosity matches our own. If you want to work across a diverse set of tools, languages, and tech stacks and enjoy running production services on a global scale we want you. By joining our Enterprise Services Domain, you will contribute to the development, deployment, and operation of commercial and in-house built software for monitoring and managing our worldwide fleet of satellites and ground systems. You will have the opportunity to work across a diverse set of products and problems from managing a large Kubernetes deployment, to operating large data collection and storage systems, to contributing to open source Grafana plugins, and more. This position can be based out of any one of our awesome offices in Denver, Carlsbad, Seattle, Austin, San Jose, New England, Europe, and/or telework for a properly qualified candidate.


  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
  • Proficiency coding in Python, Golang, or Bash scripting. We are a polyglot team therefore an ability to learn new languages is a must.
  • Familiarity with *nix operating systems and deploying / operating software on *nix based VMs and containers
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP network fundamentals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Must be willing to be in an on-call rotation for production services. Typical rotations are 1 week in duration.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%


  • Previous software development internship experience on a DevOps team
  • Experience or exposure to Kubernetes and containerization
  • Familiarity with data engineering principles
  • Previous contributions to an Open Source project or personal GitHub portfolio
  • Knowledge of SCRUM and/or Kanban
  • Knowledge of how technical decisions drive costs

At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. The starting salary for this position is $83,300 annually, but an offered salary may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience. This position may also be eligible for other cash or stock incentives, including Viasat’s Employee Stock Purchase Program, which allows Viasat employees to purchase Viasat stock at a discount.
