Job Overview

An experienced firmware engineer who can operate as a key player in the design, development and test of bespoke digital design solutions targeting programmable logic devices and embedded processors for Information Assurance and Satellite based projects. The role is responsible for:
  • Analysing requirements, high level architecture design, low level detailed design, implementation, test and integration
  • Leading development activities, to engage with and direct other engineers to achieve a common goal
  • Providing a high level of assurance for the overall solution by being both hands-on and providing technical direction to other highly skilled engineers
  • Championing the Viasat culture and values through own behaviours and those of the wider team
  • Creating and promoting an inclusive and collaborative environment within own team and across the organisation
  • Participating in a feedback culture to provide positive challenge where appropriate and openly express own views and opinions
Key Skills / Knowledge and Attributes
  • Full development life-cycle experience
  • Ability to estimate development effort required for solutions
  • Sound understanding of firmware/FPGA engineering and quality processes
  • Good working practice of writing requirements and system design methodologies
  • Strong VHDL experience for FPGA Design and Simulation (Modelsim)
  • Configuration management and version control
  • Be IT literate in MS Office Word, Excel, etc
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience recruiting, building and maintaining technical teams
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Effective collaboration and positive behaviour
  • Effective and flexible team player
  • Ability to work independently
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, able to multi-task and work to deadlines

  • Degree 2:1 (Hons) or higher in a Electrical Engineering or similar discipline
  • Must hold a UK passport and be capable of obtaining (or already hold) security clearance to work on UK Government projects

Desirable Skills / Knowledge and Attributes

  • Design for Security
  • Experience of developing encryption products
  • Experience using Microsemi, Xilinx or Altera technologies
  • Experience of using Verilog/System Verilog
  • Requirements analysis, capture and management in DOORs
  • Design, implementation and test of PCBs
  • Experience working with PCIe NVME
